Regular Season Round 9: Braunschweig - Vechta 2 65-68

Very predictable result when fourth ranked Vechta-2 (6-3) edged on the road 13th ranked SG Braunschweig (2-7) 68-65 on Saturday. Kevin Smit (183-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 assists for the winners and American forward Marshawn Blackmon (196-97, college: Newman) chipped in 23 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Sananda Fru (208-3) with 16 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Damjan Milutinovic (183-0) scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four SG Braunschweig players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Vechta-2 moved-up to third place in North, which they share with Stade and Berlin BG 2000. Newly promoted SG Braunschweig dropped to the fourteenth position with seven games lost. Vechta-2 will meet at home Wolfenbuettel (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SG Braunschweig will play against Neustadt TSV and hope to secure a win.
