Regular Season Round 14: Melitopol - Kharkiv 52-79
Date: November 18, 2021
There was no surprise when one of their biggest challengers Melitopol (4-5) was outleveled by first ranked Kharkiv (7-1) in Zelenodolsk 79-52 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-52. Kharkiv dominated on the defensive end, holding Melitopol to just 3 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Melitopol's 26 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Kharkiv had a 34-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. Kirill Nikiforenko notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Oleksandr Pryiomko supported him with 17 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Kharkiv players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds by Yegor Sushkin did not help to save the game for Melitopol. Bogdan Bulgakov added 13 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Melitopol's coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Kharkiv have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. Loser Melitopol dropped to the second place with five games lost. They share the position with Ternopil. Kharkiv will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Melitopol will play against the league's second-placed KSLI-Kyiv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
