Regular Season Round 8: Frankivsk - Kyiv Basket 59-86
Date: November 21, 2021
Everything went according to plan when third ranked Kyiv Basket (10-2) outplayed 5th ranked Frankivsk (4-6) in Ivano-Frankivsk 86-59 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Kyiv Basket. Frankivsk managed to win third quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American center Ciera Johnson (190-97, college: Texas A&M) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and the other American import guard Ieshia Small (170-94, college: Maryland) supported her with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Kyiv Basket had such big advantage that coach Volodimir Kholopov felt comfortable to give the chance to play for 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Even a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds by Russian forward Elena Teteruk (182-85) did not help to save the game for Frankivsk. The former international swingman Krystyna Filevich (182-91) added 14 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Kyiv Basket have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Budivelnyk. Frankivsk lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with six games lost. Kyiv Basket will meet at home league's leader Prometey in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Frankivsk will play against Interkhim (#4) in Odessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
