Very expected game when 9th ranked Merkezefendi (1-5) was smashed on the road by fourth ranked Pinar Karsiyaka (4-2) 89-66 on Sunday. Pinar Karsiyaka forced 20 Merkezefendi turnovers and outrebounded them 46-34 including a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Pinar Karsiyaka looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Mustafa Akkanat notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead the effort and Yusuf Akbiyik (-3) supported him with 16 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. Four Pinar Karsiyaka players scored in double figures. Even 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by forward Atahan Altiok (198-4) did not help to save the game for Merkezefendi. Bilal Dogutas (-3) added 6 points and 10 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinar Karsiyaka maintains fourth position in League with 4-2 record. Newly promoted Merkezefendi keeps the ninth place with five games lost. Pinar Karsiyaka will meet league's second-placed Besiktas in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Merkezefendi will play against TED Ankara (#6) and hope to win that game.
