Regular Season Round 11: Berlin BG 2000 - Wusterhausen 58-71

There was an upset when higher ranked Berlin BG 2000 (6-5) was defeated at home by tenth ranked WSG Koenigs (4-7) 71-58 on Saturday. WSG Koenigs shot 24 for 34 from the free-throw line, while Berlin BG 2000 only scored six points from the stripe. It was a great evening for center Oliver Mackeldanz (211-90) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Gideon Steffen (185-98) helped adding 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four WSG Koenigs players scored in double figures. Forward Yassin Mahfouz (194-93) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Daniel Borchers (185-97) scored 10 points, 5 assists and 8 steals. Berlin BG 2000's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. WSG Koenigs maintains tenth place in North with 4-7 record, which they share with Bramsche. Berlin BG 2000 lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Neustadt TSV and Cuxhaven. WSG Koenigs will meet at home higher ranked Goetting.ASC (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Berlin BG 2000 will play against Cuxhaven and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
