Regular Season Round 7: LSU-Kaunas - Zalgiris 96-52

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kaunas: LSU-Kaunas (#4) and Zalgiris (#6). LSU-Kaunas (4-1) crushed visiting Zalgiris (3-3) by 44 points 96-52. LSU-Kaunas dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Zalgiris' 20. LSU-Kaunas forced 31 Zalgiris turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 32 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Zalgiris' players. It was a great evening for Kornelija Balciunaite (176-81) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 9 steals. Guard Ieva Stankeviciute (176-89) helped adding 20 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Five LSU-Kaunas players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Ema Januskeviciute (191-3) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and forward Patricija Pakulyte (182-4) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Zalgiris' coach Lina Brazdeikyte gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. LSU-Kaunas moved-up to third place in Lyga. Zalgiris at the other side dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. LSU-Kaunas will play against league's leader Alytaus on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zalgiris' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kaunas Patriotes.
