Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked CSM Targoviste (2-6) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Cluj Napoca (4-4) 61-54 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 61-54. Cluj Napoca outrebounded CSM Targoviste 41-30 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by CSM Targoviste's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Makeda Nicholas (185-96, college: Delaware, agency: DC Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Rubin Taneka (178-93, college: FAMU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Worth to mention Taneka played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Cluj Napoca's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was international point guard Carla Popescu (168-0) who recorded 16 points and 9 rebounds and the former international Gabriela Irimia (183-90) added 9 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Cluj Napoca maintains seventh place with 4-4 record. Loser CSM Targoviste dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Brasov and Agronomia. Cluj Napoca will meet Brasov (#10) on the road in the next round. CSM Targoviste will play against Agronomia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
