There was a small surprise in Essen where eleventh ranked ETB Miners (5-7) edged 8th ranked Hamm (6-7) 80-79 on Saturday. ETB Miners made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. American guard Devin Peterson (185, college: WCU) stepped up and scored 25 points and 7 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners and American-Irish guard Patrick Carney (185-85, college: Chapman) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. ETB Miners' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American Josh Boutte (198, college: Angelo St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and Jascal Knoerig (-0) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five Hamm players scored in double figures. ETB Miners moved-up to tenth place in West, which they share with Hagen-Haspe. Loser Hamm keeps the eighth position with seven games lost. They share it with Loewen. ETB Miners will meet at home higher ranked BSV Wulfen (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hamm will play against Deutzer and hope to secure a win.
