Regular Season Round 8: Izmit - Galatasaray 69-80

Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Galatasaray (6-2) won against 8th ranked Izmit (4-4) in Kocaeli 80-69 on Saturday. They outrebounded Izmit 47-35 including 37 on the defensive glass. Galatasaray looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by Serbian power forward Tina Krajisnik-Jovanovic (190-91) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and Sude Yilmaz (178-2) supported her with 13 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Even 16 points and 4 assists by point guard Melisa Korkmaz (172-97) did not help to save the game for Izmit. American center Kristina Higgins (196-94, college: Baylor) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Galatasaray have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Bursa and Nesibe. Loser Izmit keeps the eighth position with four games lost. Galatasaray will meet at home league's second-placed Ormanspor in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Izmit will play against Mersin (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
