Regular Season Round 21: Cherkasy - Krivbas 65-71

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Cherkasy (4-16) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Krivbas (7-14) 71-65 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 71-65. Krivbas looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Montenegrin Milos Popovic (201-98) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and international center Vladyslav Koreniuk (210-94, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Krivbas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Henry Dugat (183-87, college: Baylor, agency: BIG) with 16 points and 6 assists and the former international swingman Oleksandr Kolchenko (195-88) scored 13 points and 4 steals. Cherkasy's coach Maksym Mikhelson let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Krivbas maintains ninth place with 7-14 record. Cherkasy lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 16 games lost. They share it with Mykolaiv. Krivbas will meet league's second-placed Budivelnyk in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cherkasy will play against Mykolaiv (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
