Regular Season Round 12: Kyiv Basket - Chaika 84-57
Date: December 17, 2021
Very expected game when 8th ranked Chaika (2-16) was crushed on the road by second ranked Kyiv Basket (15-3) 84-57. The game without a history. Kyiv Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 22-of-28 charity shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Kyiv Basket forced 23 Chaika turnovers and outrebounded them 49-29 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The winners were led by American center Ciera Johnson (190-97, college: Texas A&M) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the former international center Taisia Udodenko (190-89) supported her with 12 points and 19 rebounds. Five Kyiv Basket players scored in double figures. Even 17 points and 7 rebounds by U.S. Virgin Islands-American swingman Natalie Day (182-90, college: Portland) did not help to save the game for Chaika. U.S. Virgin Islands guard Taylor Jones (173-97, college: Oakland) added 16 points. Chaika's coach already knew that her team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Kyiv Basket have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-3 record having just two point less than leader Prometey. Chaika lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Dynamo-NPU. Kyiv Basket's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kyiv Budivelnyk.
