Regular Season Round 12: Kyiv Basket - Chaika 73-38
Date: December 18, 2021
Very predictable result when second ranked Kyiv Basket (15-3) smashed at home 8th ranked Chaika (2-16) 73-38. It looked good early as Chaika took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Kyiv Basket had a 18-8 second period charge getting the lead and Chaika was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 38-73. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Chaika to just 7 points in third quarter. Kyiv Basket forced 24 Chaika turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Chaika's players. The winners were led by the former international center Taisia Udodenko (190-89) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and American center Ciera Johnson (190-97, college: Texas A&M) supported her with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Four Kyiv Basket players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds by U.S. Virgin Islands-American swingman Natalie Day (182-90, college: Portland) did not help to save the game for Chaika. U.S. Virgin Islands guard Taylor Jones (173-97, college: Oakland) added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Chaika's coach already knew that her team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Kyiv Basket have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-3 record having just two point less than leader Prometey. Chaika lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Dynamo-NPU. Kyiv Basket's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kyiv Budivelnyk.
