Regular Season Round 13: Galatasaray - Afyon 124-82

There was no surprise in Istanbul where 13th ranked Afyon Bld (3-9) was crushed by sixth ranked Galatasaray (8-5) 124-82 on Saturday. Galatasaray dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Afyon Bld's 52. They outrebounded Afyon Bld 56-29 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Galatasaray looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Afyon Bld's players. Trinidad and Tobago-American swingman Devaughn Akoon-Purcell (196-93, college: Illinois St.) stepped up and scored 29 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American forward Kerry Blackshear Jr (208-97, college: Florida) chipped in 14 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Galatasaray players scored in double figures. At the losing side American Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) responded with 43 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and point guard Bilgehan Diril (189-1) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Galatasaray moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Gaziantep. Afyon Bld lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth position with nine games lost. They share it with Buyukcekmece. Galatasaray will meet Tofas (#7) in the next round. Afyon Bld will play against Bursaspor (#11) and hope to secure a win.
