Rather predictable result when thirteenth ranked Merkezefendi (5-9) rolled over on the road bottom-ranked Socar Petkim (2-12) 89-70 on Sunday. Merkezefendi looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American players dominated the game. Point guard Kalin Lucas (185-89, college: Michigan St.) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 assists to lead the effort and forward Nathan Sestina (206-97, college: Kentucky) supported him with 16 points and 4 assists. Five Merkezefendi players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds by center Malcolm Thomas (206-88, college: SDSU, agency: Slash Sports) did not help to save the game for Socar Petkim. Sean Armand (193-91, college: Iona, agency: Slash Sports) added 17 points and 7 assists for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Merkezefendi have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Turk Telekom. Loser Socar Petkim stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Merkezefendi will meet at home higher ranked Acibadem (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Socar Petkim will play against Besiktas (#9) in Istanbul and hope to secure a win.
