Regular Season Round 10: Zalgiris I - KKM I 78-84

Everything could happen in Kaunas at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked KKM I and 12th ranked Zalgiris I had identical 1-7 record. But Zalgiris I was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Klaipeda 84-78 on Tuesday night. The guests trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 51-38 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. KKM I made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game, while Zalgiris I only scored seven points from the stripe. KKM I forced 21 Zalgiris I turnovers. Strangely Zalgiris I outrebounded KKM I 40-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. Swingman Emilis Maziliauskas (192-4) scored 28 points to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Laurynas Vitosis (192-4) chipped in 25 points and 5 rebounds during the contest (made all of his fourteen free throws !!!). At the losing side point guard Rokas Dailidavicius (183-4) responded with 16 points and 5 assists and Povilas Zeimys (190-4) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Four Zalgiris I players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. KKM I maintains eleventh position with 2-7 record. Zalgiris I lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with eight games lost. KKM I will meet higher ranked Panevezio (#8) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Zalgiris I will play against the league's leader VKKM (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
