Date: January 2, 2022
Very expected game in Lisbon where 12th ranked Academica (2-13) was crushed by third ranked Sporting (11-2) 115-65 on Sunday. Sporting forced 26 Academica turnovers and outrebounded them 49-28 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 40 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Academica's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Travante Williams (197-93, college: Alaska, agency: Duran International) who scored 23 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. International center Daniel Relvao (208-96, college: GMU) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Five Sporting players scored in double figures. Serbian center Nikola Vujovic (211-93) produced 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Andrew Kostecka (193, college: Loyola, MD) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains third position with 11-2 record having just one point less than leader FC Porto. Loser Academica stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. Sporting will meet Povoa (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Academica will play against the league's leader FC Porto (#1) and hope to secure a win.
