Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Vilniaus univ. and 5th ranked Zalgiris had identical 5-3 record. This time Vilniaus univ. used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Kaunas 78-60 on Wednesday night. Vilniaus univ. dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Zalgiris' 24. Vilniaus univ. forced 20 Zalgiris turnovers and outrebounded them 48-36 including 34 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Center Ieva Savickaite (190-96) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Ugne Kucinskaite (182-1) supported her with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Vilniaus univ. players scored in double figures. Even 28 points and 9 rebounds by forward Daniele Pakulyte (182-4) did not help to save the game for Zalgiris. Guard Vesta Peregorodejevaite (165-1) added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Zalgiris' coach Lina Brazdeikyte rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Vilniaus univ. maintains fourth position in Lyga with 6-3 record. Loser Zalgiris dropped to the sixth place with four games lost. Vilniaus univ. will meet at home Patriotes (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Zalgiris will play against the league's second-placed Alytaus and hope to secure a win.
