Regular Season Round 18: Siauliai - Zalgiris 86-89

Fourth-ranked Siauliai (10-6) gave a tough game to first ranked Zalgiris (15-1) on Friday. The visitors from Kaunas managed to secure only three-point victory 89-86. However their fans expected easier game. Zalgiris made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Siauliai helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American power forward Tyler Cavanaugh (206-94, college: GWU) scored 26 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Edgaras Ulanovas (199-92) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Zalgiris' coach Jure Zdovc used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American guard Jon Elmore (190-95, college: Marshall) with 32 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and Giedrius Staniulis (206-91) scored 16 points. Zalgiris have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 15-1 record. Siauliai at the other side keeps the fourth place with six games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face league's second-placed Rytas in Vilnius in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Siauliai will play on the road against Nevezis in Kedainiai and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
