Regular Season Round 13: Targoviste - Brasov 75-74

A very close game took place in Targoviste between CSM Targoviste and Brasov. Ninth ranked CSM Targoviste (4-8) got a very close home victory over 11th ranked Brasov (2-10). CSM Targoviste managed to escape with a 1-point win 75-74 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-22. But Brasov won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international guard Ancuta Stoenescu (175-80) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international point guard Carla Popescu (168-0) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side Serbian Biljana Pesovic (180-83) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Serbian guard Maja Scekic (170-87) scored 19 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. CSM Targoviste maintains ninth place with 4-8 record. Brasov lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with ten games lost. CSM Targoviste will meet higher ranked Targu Mures (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brasov will play against the league's leader Arad (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
