Rather predictable result when seventh ranked Lions (11-7) won against 9th ranked Phoenix Hagen (9-9) in Karlsruhe 93-88 on Friday. It was a great shooting night for Lions especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for Ferdinand Zylka (191-98) who led the winners and scored 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Stanley Whittaker (183-94, college: Keiser) accounted for 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Lions players scored in double figures. American point guard CJ Walker (185-97, college: Ohio St.) came up with 24 points and 4 assists and Haitian-American guard Shawn Occeus (193-97, college: Northeastern) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Phoenix Hagen in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Lions moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Bayer Giants. Loser Phoenix Hagen keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with Bremerhaven. Lions will meet Kirchheim Knights (#8) on the road in the next round. Phoenix Hagen will play against Ehingen/Urspringschule and hope to secure a win.
