Regular Season Round 16: Wolfenbuettel - Westerstede 83-77

Round in Regionalliga means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Wolfenbuettel where host Wolfenbuettel (5-9) beat league's leader Westerstede (11-4) 83-77 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Westerstede. They outrebounded Westerstede 40-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. Naturalized American point guard Anish Sharda (187-82, college: St.Mary's, KS) fired 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American Emilio Arellano (196-92, college: Southwestern, CA) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Wolfenbuettel's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Fritz Hemschemeier (182-98) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds, 13 assists and 6 steals and Max Schell (200-3) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Wolfenbuettel and four Westerstede players scored in double figures. Wolfenbuettel have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eleventh place in North. Westerstede at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Stuttgart. Westerstede will play next round against Bergedorf trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Wolfenbuettel will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Bramsche on the road.
