There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (6-10) defeated on the road 12th ranked Braunschweig (6-9) 93-82 on Saturday. MLP Academics Heidelberg made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Strangely Braunschweig outrebounded MLP Academics Heidelberg 48-30 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American power forward Brekkott Chapman (206-96, college: Weber St.) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Kelvin Martin (196-89, college: Charleston So.) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. MLP Academics Heidelberg's coach Branislav Ignjatovic used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Czech center Martin Peterka (205-95) produced 17 points and 9 rebounds and Czech point guard Ondrej Sehnal (196-97) added 16 points and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Five Braunschweig players scored in double figures. MLP Academics Heidelberg moved-up to thirteenth place. Loser Braunschweig keeps the twelfth position with nine games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg will meet at home league's leader Bayern Muenchen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Braunschweig will play against Bayreuth (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
