Regular Season Round 12: Sangalhos - Esgueira 62-57

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both first ranked Sangalhos and second-best Esgueira had identical 9-2 record. This time Sangalhos used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Esgueira 62-57 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The winners were led by American forward Steven Julian (198-96, college: Cornell) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Joao Martinho (-97) supported him with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Even a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds by American forward Corey Brown (202-97, college: Canisius) did not help to save the game for Esgueira. His fellow American import guard Sean Lloyd (196-96, college: SIU) added 16 points and 6 rebounds. Sangalhos (10-2) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Loser Esgueira keeps the second place with three games lost. Sangalhos will meet Maia Basket (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Esgueira will play against Electrico FC (#5) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the LPB just one year after relegation.
