There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Bensheim (4-11) won against at home higher ranked Tuebingen 2 (7-6) 106-88 on Saturday. They outrebounded Tuebingen 2 43-23 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Bensheim shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Philip Jenkins (188-90, college: Life) stepped up and scored 38 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners and point guard Yann Groehlich (175-87) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Joshua Schwaibold responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Daniel Zacek (180-1) scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Bensheim maintains fourteenth place in South West with 4-11 record. Loser Tuebingen 2 dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. They share it with Fellbach. Bensheim will meet higher ranked Kronberg (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tuebingen 2 will play against Limburg and hope to secure a win.
