Regular Season Round 17: Recklinghausen - Leverkusen 2 71-65

There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Recklinghausen (9-8) beat at home 4th placed Leverkusen 2 (10-7) 71-65 on Saturday. Dutch forward Tyson Kanseyo (203-95, college: Azusa Pacific) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American swingman Kendall Stafford (193-97, college: N.Alabama) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. Four Recklinghausen players scored in double figures. Robert Merz (198-0) responded with 21 points and guard Daniel Merkens (184-96) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Leverkusen 2's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Recklinghausen moved-up to fifth place in West, which they share with Bonn 2. Loser Leverkusen 2 dropped to the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Deutzer. Recklinghausen will meet Grevenbroich (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leverkusen 2 will play against the league's second-placed Ibbenbueren (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
