Regular Season Round 15: Budivelnyk - Frankivsk 108-71

Not a big story in a game in Kyiv where 4th placed Frankivsk (11-11) was rolled over by second ranked Budivelnyk (18-4) 108-71 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Budivelnyk. Frankivsk managed to win second period 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Budivelnyk dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Frankivsk's 34 and made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game. Budivelnyk forced 28 Frankivsk turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Arella Guirantes (180-97, college: Rutgers) who had a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Her fellow American import guard Kristen Spolyar (178-97, college: Butler) chipped in a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 11 assists and 8 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was Russian forward Elena Teteruk (182-85) who recorded 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Veronika Kosmach (175-1) added 19 points and 6 assists respectively. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Budivelnyk. Newly promoted Budivelnyk maintains second place with 18-4 record having just three points less than leader Prometey. Loser Frankivsk keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. Budivelnyk will meet at home Interkhim (#5) in the next round. Frankivsk will play against the league's leader Prometey and hope to secure a win.
