Regular Season Round 15: Chaika - Interkhim 80-63

There was a minor upset in Berdiansk where 5th ranked Interkhim (9-13) was defeated by seventh ranked Chaika (4-18) 80-63 on Sunday. The game without a history. Chaika led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Interkhim's 28. Chaika looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Alona Samokhvalova (180-97) who scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. U.S. Virgin Islands-American swingman Natalie Day (182-90, college: Portland) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Chaika players scored in double figures. Chaika's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Yevgeniya MBaye (192-92) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Olena Samburska (175-89) added 12 points, 7 assists and 4 steals respectively. Chaika maintains seventh place with 4-18 record. Interkhim lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with 13 games lost. Chaika will meet bottom-ranked Dynamo-NPU (#8) in the next round. Interkhim will play against the league's second-placed Budivelnyk where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
