Regular Season Round 19: Samsun - Balikesir 88-87

Thirteenth-ranked Balikesir (6-12) was very close to win a game against first ranked Samsun (14-4). Samsun managed to secure only one-point victory 88-87. However their fans expected much easier game. Strangely Balikesir outrebounded Samsun 49-34 including 19 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a great evening for forward Mert Sert (198-96, college: UMass Dartmouth) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Mert Gizir (193-94) helped adding 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Samsun players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona) responded with 29 points and 7 assists and the former international Umit Sonkol (206-82) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. Newly promoted Samsun maintains first place with 14-4 record. Balikesir lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with 12 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Samsun will play against Konyaspor (#5) on the road in the next round. Balikesir will play against Mersin BBGSK (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
