Regular Season Round 19: Galati - Craiova 69-85

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Galati (5-14) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Craiova (10-4) 85-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Craiova. Galati managed to win second period 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Galati 41-27 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Michael Qualls (197-94, college: Arkansas, agency: Inception Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 8 rebounds. Nigerian-Italian center Peter Olisemeka (207-91, agency: TWB) helped adding 17 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side Jamaican-Canadian point guard Javon Masters (183-94, college: UNB, agency: Blacktop Management) responded with 15 points and 7 assists and the former international Marius Ciotlaus (195-96, agency: BIG) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Galati players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Craiova. They maintain fifth place with 10-4 record. Loser Galati keeps the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. Craiova will meet at home bottom-ranked Rapid (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Galati will play against Oradea and hope to secure a win.
