There was a minor upset in Frankfurt where 15th ranked Skyliners (5-14) were defeated by seventeenth ranked EWE Baskets (5-15) 110-103 on Wednesday. EWE Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Israeli-American guard Max Heidegger (191-97, college: UCSB) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 assists for the winners and American point guard Phil Pressey (180-91, college: Missouri) chipped in 18 points and 8 assists. EWE Baskets' coach Ingo Freyer allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was American center Jamel McLean (202-88, college: Xavier) with 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and the other American import point guard Will Cherry (185-91, college: Montana) scored 19 points and 5 assists. Five EWE Baskets and four Skyliners players scored in double figures. EWE Baskets moved-up to sixteenth place. Skyliners lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifteenth position with 14 games lost. EWE Baskets will meet at home higher ranked Bayreuth (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Skyliners will play against ALBA Berlin (#5) and hope to secure a win.
