Regular Season Round 17: Timberwolves - Kapfenberg 63-66

No shocking result in a game in Vienna where sixth ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (7-8) edged 9th ranked Timberwolves (4-9) 66-63 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Timberwolves won fourth quarter 17-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kapfenberg Bulls dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Timberwolves' 22. American guard Derryck Thornton (190-97, college: Boston Coll.) stepped up and scored 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Serbian forward Nemanja Krstic (205-93) chipped in 16 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Slovenian center Ziga Fifolt (210-93) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds and guard Jonas John (186-99) scored 15 points. Timberwolves' coach Hubert Schmidt tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Kapfenberg Bulls maintains sixth place with 7-8 record. Loser Timberwolves keep the ninth position with nine games lost. Kapfenberg Bulls will meet at home higher ranked UBC St. Poelten (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Timberwolves will have a break next round.
