No shocking result in a game when tenth ranked Bayreuth (10-10) defeated at home 14th ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (6-14) 85-79 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Bayreuth outrebounded MLP Academics Heidelberg 37-23 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Bayreuth looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by MLP Academics Heidelberg's players. Lithuanian center Martynas Sajus (208-96) stepped up and scored 19 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners and American swingman Sacar Anim (196-97, college: Marquette) chipped in 22 points. Bayreuth's coach Raoul Korner allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Robert Lowery (188-87, college: Dayton) with 17 points and 4 assists and the other American import power forward Brekkott Chapman (206-96, college: Weber St.) scored 14 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Bayreuth maintains tenth place with 10-10 record. MLP Academics Heidelberg lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. Bayreuth will meet EWE Baskets (#16) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play against MBC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
