Regular Season Round 11: Basket Flames - Timberwolves 67-59

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Vienna: Flames (#5) and Timberwolves (#7). Flames (4-5) won against visiting Timberwolves (2-7) 67-59. It looked good early as Timberwolves took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Flames had a 18-6 second period charge getting the lead and Timberwolves were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 59-67. Flames dominated on the defensive end, holding Timberwolves to just 6 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Timberwolves' 24. Flames forced 24 Timberwolves turnovers and outrebounded them 40-26 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Clara Kronfuss (175-97) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Stella Popp (178-1, college: Albany) contributed with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The former international guard Aleksandra Novakovic (173-94) answered with 14 points and 6 rebounds and guard Sophie Baydanov (176-3) added 11 points in the effort for Timberwolves. Timberwolves' coach Aldin Saracevic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Flames maintains fifth place with 4-5 record. Timberwolves lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with seven games lost. Flames will play against league's leader BK Duchess in Klosterneuburg in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Timberwolves will play at home against DBBC Graz (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
