Regular Season Round 18: Quinta Lombos - Vagos 73-64

There was a small surprise in Carcavelos where seventh ranked Quinta Lombos (9-7) defeated 5th ranked Vagos (11-5) 73-64 on Sunday. They outrebounded Vagos 53-34 including a 43-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Quinta Lombos made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was forward Ndioma Kane (188-99) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks. Brazilian power forward Leticia Rodrigues (190-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. Four Quinta Lombos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Martha Burse (168-96, college: Indianapolis) who recorded 18 points and Colombian forward Manuela Rios (165-97) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Quinta Lombos moved-up to sixth place. Loser Vagos keep the fifth position with five games lost. Quinta Lombos will meet league's leader Benfica in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Vagos will play against Esgueira (#3) in Aveiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
