Second Stage Round 3: Metropol Ruhr - Loewen 57-81

There was a minor upset in Essen where Metropol Ruhr (7-6) was crushed by Loewen (9-6) 81-57 on Sunday. Loewen outrebounded Metropol Ruhr 58-22 including a 43-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Thamy Will (194-3) who scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Tom Roesler (198-3) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Five Loewen players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Laurits Wilke (200-3) who recorded 13 points and 7 rebounds and Ben Boether (198-3) added 11 points respectively. Metropol Ruhr's coach Gary Johnson gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Loewen will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Metropol Ruhr will play again against Loewen in Erfurt and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
