Regular Season Round 16: Saule - Zalgiris II 84-87

Eleventh-ranked Saule (3-13) made lots of trouble for second ranked Zalgiris II (13-1) in Siauliai. The visitors from Kaunas managed to secure only three-point victory 87-84. However their fans expected much easier game. It looked good early as Saule took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris II had a 29-14 second period charge getting the lead and Saule was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 84-87. They outrebounded Saule 58-24 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Emilis Bartninkas (198-2004) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Dominykas Cernius (204-2004) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Zalgiris II's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Eitvidas Juodris (-2004) replied with 32 points and forward Domantas Sarauskas (200-2004) added 26 points and 4 assists in the effort for Saule. Zalgiris II have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 13-1 record behind leader SKM I, which they share with VKKM. Saule lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 13 games lost. Zalgiris II will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Saule will play on the road against Tornado KM (#7) in Kaunas and hopes to get back on the winning track.
