Regular Season Round 16: Budivelnyk - Interkhim 85-53

No shocking result in a game in Kyiv where second ranked Budivelnyk (20-4) smashed 5th ranked Interkhim (9-15) 85-53 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Budivelnyk. Interkhim managed to win second period 18-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Interkhim to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Budivelnyk dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Interkhim's 28 and made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Budivelnyk forced 21 Interkhim turnovers and outrebounded them 46-31 including a 22-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Kelley Cain (198-89, college: Tennessee) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and the former international forward Olesia Malashenko (191-91) who added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Vee Young (186-89, college: UT Southern, agency: LBM Management) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and Anna Sugak scored 6 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Budivelnyk have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Newly promoted Budivelnyk maintains second position with 20-4 record behind leader Prometey. Interkhim lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 15 games lost. Budivelnyk will meet bottom-ranked Chaika (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Interkhim will play against Rivne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
