Second Stage Round 9: Vytis - Palanga 62-73

Everything could happen in Sakiai at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Palanga and 8th ranked Vytis had identical 19-14 record. But Vytis was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Palanga 73-62 on Thursday night. Palanga dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Vytis' 26. They outrebounded Vytis 40-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. American power forward Justin Young (201-1998, college: CPP) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners and his fellow American import guard DJ Hanes (185-1995, college: Nebraska Chr., agency: One Motive Sports) chipped in 13 points and 6 assists. Palanga's coach Povilas Sakinis used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Aurelijus Pukelis (205-1994) with 11 points and 5 rebounds and Marijus Uzupis (197-1993) scored 5 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Four Vytis players scored in double figures. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Palanga. They moved-up to eighth place. Loser Vytis dropped to the ninth position with 15 games lost. Palanga will meet at home Neptunas-Akv. (#11) in the next round. Vytis will play against Vilnius and hope to secure a win.
