Regular Season Round 18: Zalgiris - LSU-Kaunas 61-71

Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Kaunas: LSU-Kaunas (#2) and Zalgiris (#5). Zalgiris was defeated at home 61-71 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. LSU-Kaunas dominated down low during the game scoring 34 of its points in the paint compared to Zalgiris' 14. They outrebounded Zalgiris 37-17 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. LSU-Kaunas looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Zalgiris' players. The best player for the winners was Kornelija Balciunaite (176-1981) who had a triple-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. Guard Ieva Stankeviciute (176-1989) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Daniele Pakulyte (182-2004) who recorded 12 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Gerda Tamoseviciute (168-2002) added 8 points and 4 assists respectively. LSU-Kaunas maintains second position in Lyga with 13-2 record having just three points less than leader Alytaus. Loser Zalgiris keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. LSU-Kaunas will meet Vilniaus univ. (#4) on the road in the next round. Zalgiris will play against Panevezio in Panevezys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
