Rather expected game when 11th ranked Brasov (3-15) was edged on the road by ninth ranked Cluj Napoca (7-12) 73-71 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 15-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Cluj Napoca looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Makeda Nicholas (185-1996, college: Delaware) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks. Her fellow American import guard Rubin Taneka (178-1993, college: FAMU) accounted for 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Worth to mention Taneka played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Serbian forward Latinka Dusanic (175-1990) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and Serbian Biljana Pesovic (180-1983) added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Brasov in the defeat. Four Brasov players scored in double figures. Cluj Napoca moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Targoviste. Loser Brasov keeps the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Cluj Napoca will meet higher ranked Targu Mures (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brasov will play against Agronomia (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
