Regular Season Round 24: Pinar Karsiyaka - Merkezefendi 83-85

A very close game took place in Izmir between Merkezefendi and Pinar Karsiyaka. Twelfth ranked Merkezefendi (7-14) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Pinar Karsiyaka (14-7). Merkezefendi managed to escape with a 2-point win 85-83 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pinar Karsiyaka. Merkezefendi shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. The winners were led by American point guard Eugene German (183-1997, college: NIU, agency: Network Sports International) who scored that evening 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward Nathan Sestina (206-1997, college: Kentucky) supported him with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 18 points and 4 assists by point guard Tony Taylor (184-1990, college: GWU) did not help to save the game for Pinar Karsiyaka. Senegalese-French Amath MBaye (205-1989, college: Oklahoma) added 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Pinar Karsiyaka players scored in double figures. Pinar Karsiyaka's coach Ufuk Sarica rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Merkezefendi maintains twelfth position with 7-14 record. Pinar Karsiyaka at the other side keeps the fourth place with seven games lost. Merkezefendi will meet higher ranked Galatasaray (#6) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Pinar Karsiyaka will play against Afyon Bld in Afyonkarahisar and hope to secure a win.
