A very close game took place in Izmir between Urla and Karsiyaka. Fourteenth ranked Urla (7-18) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Karsiyaka (10-14). Urla managed to escape with a 1-point win 92-91 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Karsiyaka. They outrebounded Karsiyaka 39-22 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Urla looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Avinar Kaya (-1998) nailed 41 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Dilek Topdemir (-1992) accounted for 17 points and 10 assists. American guard Shania Johnson (155, college: Stony Brook) came up with 37 points (!!!) and forward Doga Comba (185-1994) added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Karsiyaka in the defeat. Urla moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Antalya. Karsiyaka at the other side keeps the tenth position with 14 games lost. Urla will meet at home higher ranked Fenerbahce G. (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Karsiyaka will play against Rize having rather not much hope for a victory.
