Regular Season Round 16: Timberwolves - Vienna United 41-65

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Vienna: Vienna United (#3) and Timberwolves (#7). Timberwolves were smashed at home by 24 points 41-65 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Vienna United. Timberwolves managed to win third quarter 13-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Timberwolves to just 5 points in second quarter. Vienna United held Timberwolves to an opponent 20.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Timberwolves 59-29 including a 47-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Vienna United looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Timberwolves' players. Worth to mention a great performance of Czech forward Emma Chechova (186-2004) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Valentina Mraulak (172-1997) contributed with 9 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Aleksandra Novakovic (173-1994) replied with 18 points and 6 steals and guard Sophie Baydanov (176-2003) added 16 points in the effort for Timberwolves. Vienna United (10-3) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with UBI Graz. Timberwolves lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Vienna United is looking forward to face league's second-placed UBI Graz at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Timberwolves will have a break next round.
