Regular Season Round 27: Mersin - Tarsus 84-49

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Mersin (23-4) smashed at home 11th ranked Tarsus (9-18) 84-49 on Wednesday. Mersin dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Tarsus' 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Tarsus' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mersin made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American Peyton Whitted (190-1995, college: Penn St.) who led her team to a victory scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Yaren Gunduz (167-1997) helped adding 6 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists. The best for the losing side was American center Sharon Houston (191-1988, college: IU Northwest) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and forward Deniz Aygul (186-1995) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mersin have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Botas GA. Tarsus lost fourth consecutive game. Tarsus at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. They share it with Cesme. Mersin will meet Urla (#14) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Tarsus will play against Cesme and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
