We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 11th ranked Kirchheim Knights (13-14) lost to twelfth ranked SparkassenStars (13-16) in Bochum 81-89 on Friday. SparkassenStars made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Dominic Green (198-1997, college: Washington) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 7 rebounds. Power forward Johannes Joos (206-1995) accounted for 19 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side. SparkassenStars' coach Felix Banobre used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Center Yasin Kolo (208-1992, college: Bellarmine) came up with 19 points and 5 rebounds and Till Pape (204-1997, agency: LUMANI 10.7) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Kirchheim Knights in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted SparkassenStars maintains twelfth place with 13-16 record. Loser Kirchheim Knights keep the eleventh position with 14 games lost. SparkassenStars will meet at home higher ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kirchheim Knights will play against Eagles in Itzehoe and hope to secure a win.
