Second Stage Round 6: Gmunden - Kapfenberg 98-99

The most exciting game of round 6 in the BSL took place in Gmunden. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-best Gmunden Swans (15-7) to sixth ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (10-12) 99-98 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 22-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Derryck Thornton (190-1997, college: Boston Coll.) who scored 31 points and 8 assists. Slovenian forward Dejan Cigoja (205-1988) chipped in 23 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Daniel Friedrich (181-1992) who recorded 23 points and 9 assists and American forward Stephon Jelks (198-1996, college: Mercer) added 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Four Kapfenberg Bulls and five Gmunden Swans players scored in double figures. Gmunden Swans' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kapfenberg Bulls maintains sixth position with 10-12 record. Defending champion Gmunden Swans keep the second place with seven games lost. Kapfenberg Bulls are looking forward to face higher ranked UBSC Graz (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gmunden Swans will play against UBC St. Poelten in St.Poelten and are hoping to win this game.
