Important game to mention about took place in Jena. Fifth ranked Gladiators (18-12) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging second-ranked Science City Jena (19-8) 76-74 on Sunday evening. They outrebounded Science City Jena 42-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. Gladiators players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The winners were led by American guard Parker Van Dyke (190-1994, college: Utah) who scored that evening 21 points and Canadian Brody Clarke (205-1996, college: Alberta) supported him with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Even 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by American point guard Rayshawn Simmons (192-1993, college: CMU) did not help to save the game for Science City Jena. His fellow American import swingman Brandon Thomas (198-1984, college: UMass, agency: Interperformances) added 20 points for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gladiators moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Bayer Giants. Science City Jena at the other side dropped to the third position with eight games lost. Gladiators will play against league's second-placed Tigers in Tuebingen in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Science City Jena will play on the road against Falcons in Nuernberg and hopes to get back on the winning track.
