We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 9th ranked Hakro Merlins (12-11) were defeated on the road by tenth ranked Brose Bamberg (12-14) 91-81 on Tuesday. Brose Bamberg dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Hakro Merlins' 32. They outrebounded Hakro Merlins 48-31 including 18 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for Panamanian-American center Akil Mitchell (206-1992, college: Virginia) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. American Omar Prewitt (201-1994, college: William & Mary) helped adding 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Brose Bamberg players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Mike Caffey (183-1993, college: LBSU, agency: Players Group) with 16 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward Jaren Lewis (198-1996, college: ACU) scored 20 points. The victory was the third consecutive win for Brose Bamberg. They maintain tenth place with 12-14 record. Hakro Merlins lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 11 games lost. Brose Bamberg will meet at home bottom-ranked Skyliners (#18) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hakro Merlins will play against Hamburg Towers (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
