Very important is a road loss of second ranked Balkan (17-5) against seventh ranked Akademik P. (9-12) on Sunday night. Visiting Balkan was defeated by Akademik P. in a tough game in Plovdiv 65-70. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Balkan. Akademik P. forced 19 Balkan turnovers. International Vasil Bachev (195-1992, college: Cuesta JC) stepped up and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Latvian Roberts Freimanis (203-1991, college: Liepaja) chipped in 7 points and 16 rebounds. Akademik P.'s coach Jordan Yankov allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American power forward DeVaughn Washington (203-1989, college: Ohio) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import point guard Ahmaad Rorie (184-1995, college: Montana) scored 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Akademik P. maintains seventh place with 9-12 record. Balkan at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Akademik P. will play against higher ranked Levski (#3) in Sofia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Balkan will play on the road against Cherno More in Varna and hopes to get back on the winning track.
