Very significant was Benfica's 90-76 road victory against Sporting. Benfica made 25-of-32 charity shots (78.1 percent) during the game. Sporting was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international Betinho Gomes (202-1985) nailed 27 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and American center Wendell Lewis (208-1989, college: Alabama St.) accounted for 18 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American forward Micah Downs (203-1986, college: Gonzaga) came up with 21 points and 4 steals and the other American import point guard Shakir Smith (194-1992, college: ASU) added 15 points and 8 assists respectively for Sporting in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Benfica will play against FC Porto at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sporting will play against Oliveirense in Oliveira and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
